184 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism when the vacant post of director of the National Library of Ireland will be filled; if the salary on offer for the position might be reviewed in the interests of securing the services of a suitably qualified person; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraArrangements for the filling of the post are in train in the context of the establishment of the National Library as a separate legal entity in accordance with the provisions of the National Cultural Institutions Act 1997. The objective is to give effect to those provisions from 1 January 2005. The salary for this post is based on recommendations of the review body on higher remuneration in the public sector. There are no proposals to change it at present.
