157 Mr. Allen asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children the number of claims presently before the State Claims Agency; and the number that relate to allegations that a patient fatality was the result of a medical error. [29017/04]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe State Claims Agency which operates the clinical indemnity scheme on behalf of my Department is currently managing 763 claims under the scheme. While it is feasible to identify claims initiated by the relatives of patients who have died, it is not possible to determine the contribution, if any, of alleged negligence to the death until the claim is disposed of by way of settlement or court judgement.
