Amharc ar fhreagraI can inform the Deputy that in accordance with the provisions of the Coroners Act 1962, a coroner is a statutory officer exercising judicial or quasi-judicial functions, in relation to which he or she is independent. However, my Department has been informed by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform that a report has recently been received from the State Laboratory by the pathologist who performed the post mortem in the case referred to and it is understood that this will enable the pathologist to complete the post mortem report and forward it to the coroner.
