83 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has made contact with the authorities in Lebanon with regard to the detention of persons (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30032/04]
Amharc ar fhreagraIreland has, on a bilateral basis, raised a number of individual cases of serious concern, especially those involving the use of the death penalty, with the Lebanese authorities. Such cases have also been raised in the context of the ongoing implementation of the EU-Lebanon Association Agreement and its relevant provisions in this area. I have asked the Irish Embassy in Cairo, which is accredited to Lebanon, to inquire as to the background to the particular cases raised, and I will communicate further with the Deputy when information is received.
