The development of private hospital facilities in the Limerick region is essentially a matter for individual private investors. The Mid-Western Health Board had previously raised with the Department the development of a private hospital on the site of the Mid-Western Regional Hospital, Limerick.
I am in the process of developing an overall policy framework which will identify the policy issues which need to be addressed and the key criteria to be applied in developing private facilities on public hospital sites. I hope to complete this work in a matter of weeks.

Ceist:239 Mr. Neville asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the radiotherapy unit at the Mid-West Regional Hospital, Limerick under the Mid- West Hospitals Development Trust. [1236/05]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Health Act 2004 provided for the Health Service Executive, which was established on 1 January 2005. Under the Act, the executive is required to manage and deliver, or arrange to be delivered on its behalf, health and personal social services. Responsibility for the health services in the mid-western region rests with the executive. My Department has requested the chief officer for the executive's mid-western area to investigate the matter raised and to reply directly to the Deputy.
