180 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the actions taken or representations made to ensure that tsunami humanitarian and reconstruction aid is not denied or misused by any recipient State for counterinsurgency purposes. [2845/05]
Amharc ar fhreagraIreland delivers humanitarian relief through Irish and international NGOs and respected multilateral organisations such as UN agencies and the International Red Cross. This practice will be followed in the disbursal of funds to the victims of the tsunami crisis. The Government has appointed the former Minister of State, Mr. Chris Flood, who is currently the chairperson of the advisory board for Development Co-operation Ireland, as this country's special envoy in the area. His functions will include, inter alia, tracking the use of the Government’s funding to ensure that funds are used effectively for the purposes intended and that best international practice is followed.
