316 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the status of a person (details supplied) who has applied for an Irish passport and is awaiting original birth certificate documentation from the United States. [3118/05]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe issuance of passports is a matter for my colleague, the Minister for Foreign Affairs. An Irish passport can only be issued to an Irish citizen. On the basis of the information supplied by the Deputy, the person in question is an Irish citizen. It would appear that the purpose of the process now under way is to determine, on the basis of objectively verifiable information, whether the information supplied by the Deputy is correct, that is, whether the person in question is the child of a person who was born in Ireland.
