104 Mr. Crawford asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children the status of the two surgeons that had to be suspended in Cavan General Hospital; if she had recent meetings with the health board management in Kells; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3350/05]
Amharc ar fhreagraI reviewed the suspensions of the persons concerned on 23 December 2004 and decided, based on legal advice, and pursuant to the powers conferred on me as Minister for Health and Children by section 22(3) of the Health Act 1970, to terminate the suspensions with effect from that date. This decision was formally advised to the parties concerned. Following on from the enactment of the Health Act 2004, the persons concerned are now employees of the HSE and it is a matter for the executive to determine the appropriate course of action in response to my decision to lift the suspensions. I have had no recent meetings with the chief officer, Health Service Executive, north eastern area, or with members of his senior management team, in relation to this matter.
