382 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs if funds are available for the construction of a lock at Inistioge, County Kilkenny; if Waterways Ireland will consider such a project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3837/05]
Amharc ar fhreagraAs the Deputy will be aware, Waterways Ireland — one of the six North-South implementation bodies — was established under the British-Irish Agreement Act 1999. The body has responsibility for the management, maintenance and development, principally for recreational purposes, of the Shannon, the Shannon-Erne Waterway, the Royal and Grand Canals, and the Barrow navigation in the South and the River Bann and Lough Erne in the North. As Waterways Ireland has no responsibility for the River Nore, it is not in a position to consider a request for the construction of a lock at Inistioge.
