357 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the progress which has been made on the promised introduction of a common nationwide waste charges waiver system for qualifying applicants. [6095/05]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe provision by a local authority of a waiver in respect of all or part of a charge in respect of the provision of a waste service by or on behalf of the authority is solely a matter for the local authority concerned. My Department has no function in the matter. However, the issue of waste charges and low income persons-households has been raised in a social partnership context arising from Sustaining Progress. Discussions are continuing between my Department and the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs in terms of identifying how any outstanding issues might be addressed.
