Amharc ar fhreagraThe legal basis for the appointment of prison chaplains is section 28 of the General Prisons (Ireland) Act 1877. The Act does not contain a definition of "officer". It makes a distinction between the service of chaplains and medical officers on the one hand and other prison personnel on the other hand.
