75 Mr. Eamon Ryan asked the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if he intends to introduce further measures to make the personal banking sector more competitive; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6214/05]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Competition Authority published a report on the banking sector on 14 December 2004 which was prepared in conjunction with economic consultants LECG. The report contains 40 recommendations designed to enhance competition between banks for the benefit of personal banking customers and SMEs. Interested parties were invited to submit comments on the remedies to the competition issues outlined in the report by 14 February 2005, after which the authority will publish a final report and recommendations. On receipt of the authority's final report, I will consider the recommendations with a view to enhancing competition in the sector.
