972 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if she will sanction the invitation of tenders for the required extension to a school (details supplied) in County Kildare in 2005; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11100/05]
Amharc ar fhreagraMy Department is moving towards a model of devolving the responsibility of building projects to school management authorities where appropriate. The devolving of funding to local level will accommodate school authorities to have responsibility and ownership of their building projects and assist in moving projects in a specific timeframe through the design process, to tender action and construction.
I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the school in question has accepted the grant for the provision of an extension under the 2005 permanent initiative which I announced recently.
975 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if the OPW has investigated the site for the new national school for Kill, County Kildare; when a report on the site investigation will issue to the school board of management; when a decision will be made in relation to purchasing the site; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraThe property management section of the Office of Public Works, which acts on behalf of my Department with regard to site acquisitions generally, is continuing to explore all possibilities on the acquisition of a site for a new national school in Kill. Every effort is being made to ensure that a site is acquired as soon as possible.
Due to the commercial sensitivities of site acquisitions, it is not proposed at this stage to identify specific sites to be acquired. However, this information will be placed on my Department's website when the relevant acquisitions have been completed.
