127 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the position with an application to upgrade a crane at a pier (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13820/05]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Department provided funding of €82,064.81 to Donegal County Council in 2002 and 2003 towards the provision of a crane at Portaleen pier. This Department has not received an application from the county council to upgrade a crane at Portaleen pier.
128 Mr. O’Dowd asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the progress to date on the new pier at Clogherhead, County Louth; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13821/05]
Amharc ar fhreagraPort Oriel pier, Clogherhead, is owned by Louth County Council and responsibility for its repair and maintenance rests with the local authority in the first instance. Sanction of €8.55 million, of which the Department will provide 75% grant aid towards the total cost, was approved by the Department in 2004. The development will provide up to 158 m of quay and will provide safe berthage for the local fishermen. I am pleased to say that I approved the allocation of €4,050,000 to Louth County Council towards the development, costing a total of €5,400,000 in the current year. I understand that the contract has been awarded by the county council and the contractor has moved onto the site.
