208 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, notwithstanding his previous decision to deport a person (details supplied), the reason for which this person arrived here in the first place is still sufficiently compelling to defer for an indefinite period their deportation if it transpires that they cannot continue to obtain current treatment in respect of their illness; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I refer the Deputy to the reply I gave to Questions Nos. 164 on Thursday, 3 February 2005, and 265 on Wednesday, 9 March 2005. The person concerned is awaiting deportation following a comprehensive examination of his asylum claim and of his application to remain temporarily in the State. Late representations made regarding his medical condition were considered and were not deemed to constitute grounds for revoking the deportation order and granting leave to remain in the State instead. The decision to deport therefore remains unchanged.
