328 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has had any reports of violence against persons deported from this country on return to their homeland by way of deportation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16501/05]
Amharc ar fhreagraI refer the Deputy to the reply I gave to Question No. 206 on Thursday, 28 April 2005. I am not aware of any reports of the type mentioned by the Deputy. All cases where a decision to deport is recommended by my officials are considered, inter alia, under the provisions of section 5 of the Refugee Act 1996, prohibition of refoulement, before such a decision is made. I am satisfied that the procedures operated ensure that, as far as possible, persons are not returned in dangerous circumstances.
