21 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when he proposes to introduce a scheme of community policing as provided for under the Garda Síochána Act 2005; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29780/05]
Amharc ar fhreagraWork is underway, involving my Department, the Garda Síochána, the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, on drafting the guidelines which I, after consulting with my colleagues, the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, will issue concerning the establishment and maintenance of joint policing committees by local authorities and the Garda Commissioner, as provided for in the Garda Síochána Act 2005. I expect this work to be completed shortly, after which I will make a statement on the commencement of the relevant sections of the Act.
