Ceisteanna (246)

John McGuinness

Ceist:

270 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if she will respond to a delegation met by her Department from Kilkenny who outlined their case for compensation arising from the affects of scrapie on their sheep flocks; and if a response will be expedited (details supplied). A response on the three cases in question has issued. With regard to one of the cases my Department has agreed in principle to arrange for full depopulation of the flock which was the preferred option of the flockowner. In the other two cases the specific arrangements sought by the flockowners concerned are not possible within the terms of the agreement on scrapie. However, I have decided to make a significant improvement in the level of compensation available under this scheme and this will be a major benefit to the flockowners concerned.
