397 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if it is the policy of her Department that poultry with an outbreak of mycoplasma gallisepticum will be depopulated; and if so, the reason compensation is not awarded in such circumstances. [4135/06]
Amharc ar fhreagraIt is not the normal policy of my Department to operate a slaughter-out policy in the case of an outbreak of mycoplasma gallisepticum and, therefore, the issue of compensation would not normally arise. It is normal practice that, when the disease is detected in the commercial poultry industry, the producer would have the flock slaughtered on a voluntary basis at his or her own expense.
