Amharc ar fhreagraAn application for capital funding towards the provision of an extension has been received from the school referred to by the Deputy. The project is being considered in the context of the school building and modernisation programme 2006-10. The Deputy will be aware that I have made a number of announcements already this year on the 2006 school building programme and will be making further announcements in this regard over the course of the year.
329 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the new greenfield site school project to provide for the merger of schools (details supplied) in County Louth; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7254/06]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe new 32 classroom building project for the schools referred to by the Deputy is at an early stage of architectural planning. The project was listed in my announcement of March 2005 to start the architectural planning process. A design team was appointed in October 2005 and my Department wrote to the school authorities outlining the scope of works and giving approval to prepare a stage 1-2 submission, developed sketch scheme with costings.
My officials have been in contact with the school authorities and they indicated that the stage 1-2 submission will be forwarded to my Department this month. When this submission is received and reviewed, my officials will be in further contact with the school authorities as to the next steps involved in progressing this project. Progression of projects to construction will be considered in the context of the school building and modernisation programme 2006-09.
