35 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the position regarding the proposed establishment of a new national governing body for horse sport here; when a new body will be established; the remit of this new body; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21028/06]
Amharc ar fhreagraWith the support of the Minister for Agriculture and Food, last year I invited Mr. Michael Dowling, former Secretary General of the Department of Agriculture and Food to chair a group which was asked to develop proposals for the establishment of a new national governing body for horse sport. Representatives of the Equestrian Federation of Ireland, the Irish Horse Board, the Irish Sports Council, the Department of Agriculture and Food and my own Department also participated in the deliberations of the group. Mr. Dowling has drawn up a set of proposals which have been accepted by the group. These proposals are now being referred to the governing bodies of the Agencies involved for adoption by them hopefully by end-June, following which they will be submitted for formal consideration by me.
