268 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of drug-related deaths as a result of overdose in prison each year since 1986 to date in 2006; the drug involved if established; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [34385/06]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe information sought by the Deputy on the deaths attributed to drug overdose during the period 1986 — 2006 (to date) together with details of the drug involved, if established, is not readily available. It will require an examination of the individual files concerned. I am arranging for this work to be carried out and will communicate further with the Deputy when the information is to hand.

Amharc ar fhreagraThe compilation of these statistics would require a disproportionate and inordinate amount of staff time and effort to prepare and could not be justified in current circumstances where there are other significant demands on resources.
