Dáil Éireann Debate, Tuesday - 5 December 2006

Tuesday, 5 December 2006

Ceisteanna (147)

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

164 Mr. Howlin asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the status of an application for naturalisation from a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary; if a decision on this application will be expedited in view of the nature of the applicant’s work which requires them to travel freely within the EU and is hindered in doing so by virtue of the fact that they must repeatedly satisfy visa requirements; and if he will make a statement on the matter. An application for naturalisation from the individual in question was received in the Citizenship Division of my Department on 16 October 2006.

In the interests of fairness to all concerned, it is the practice of the Citizenship Division to process cases in chronological order based upon the date of receipt of the application. However, due to the circumstances outlined by the Deputy, I understand that a submission will shortly be made to my Office for decision on whether this case might be expedited.

While awaiting my decision, the applicant may apply for a Multiple Re-entry Visa which is designed to cater for persons in her position. I will inform the Deputy and the person in question once I have reached a decision on the application.
