Ceisteanna (102)

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

106 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government his view on the fact that environmental air quality as monitored by the Environmental Protection Agency indicates that the allowable annual limits as defined by EC Directive for PM10 were exceeded at the majority of sites which represents no improvement since 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Freagraí scríofa

EU Directive 1999/30/EC set limit values for particulate matter (PM10), currently in force from 1 January 2005. These are the first mandatory national air quality standards for particulate matter PM10 and are transposed into Irish law by the Air Quality Standards Regulations 2002. The air quality standards in force for particulate matter (PM10) including annual limits, have never been breached.
