325 Mr. Eamon Ryan asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources when he expects to publish an action plan on energy efficiency; and the main components that would be included in such a plan. [42379/06]
Amharc ar fhreagraUnder the Energy End-Use Efficiency and Energy Services Directive, Ireland, as with all Member States of the European Union, must submit by 30 June 2007 a first Energy Efficiency Action Plan showing how it will achieve the indicative target of 9% improvement in energy efficiency by the end of the nine year period up to 2016. A joint working group of my Department, the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government, the Commission for Energy Regulation and Sustainable Energy Ireland is drawing up an action plan which will include measures to achieve a 20% improvement in energy efficiency by 2020 as proposed in the Green Paper on Energy Policy. The Action Plan, which will take account of the objectives of recently published EU Energy Efficiency Action Plan, will be finalised in early 2007.
