37 Mr. Curran asked the Minister for Defence the number of applications received to date for official replacement certificates for 1916 and War of Independence Medals lost, stolen or destroyed; the number of certificates issued; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2794/07]
Amharc ar fhreagraOf some 550 enquiries made to date, my Department has received 392 completed application forms for Medal certificates in respect of Veterans of the 1916 Rising and the War of Independence. Following examination, entitlement to certificates has so far been established in 275 cases. A total of 152 of these cases have been finalised involving the issue of 486 certificates. The issuing of certificates in the remaining 123 cases will be completed over the coming weeks. Decisions on the remaining applications will be made and, where appropriate, certificates will be issued as quickly as possible.
