Wednesday, 7 February 2007

Ceisteanna (269)

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

351 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the reason a plot of bog offered for sale under the new cessation of turf cutting scheme on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Galway has not been purchased; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The person involved was offering a specific type of turbary right which had originally been purchased from the Land Commission. It transpired that it was not possible to transfer this type of turbary right to the State, but only to extinguish the right. The complex issues involved in cases of this kind have now been resolved and they are being moved forward.
