118 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the reason, as indicated in his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 198 of 31 January 2007, the remuneration of the State Chief Science Adviser is not publicly disclosed; if it is normal practice to keep the remuneration of public servants confidential; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraThe salary scales for grades in the established public service are, of course, a matter of public information.
The post of Chief Scientific Adviser is not part of the established public service, it is a non-permanent, independent, advisory position, reporting to the Cabinet Sub-Committee on STI, with the appointment made on a contractual basis, in this case for five years.
However, having consulted with the Chief Scientific Adviser, I am now in a position to confirm that he is retained on an annual salary of €120,000 per annum.
