639 Mr. Nolan asked the Minister for Transport his proposals for the provision of public transport for persons with impaired vision who live in the south Carlow/Kilkenny area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9944/07]
Amharc ar fhreagraMy Department's Sectoral Plan under the Disability Act 2005, entitled ‘Transport Access for All', addresses the accessibility needs of people with mobility, sensory and cognitive impairments across all transport modes and contains time bound targets for the progressive realisation of accessible transport in Ireland. A copy of this Sectoral Plan is available in the Oireachtas Library.
Bus Éireann has informed me that all new buses will incorporate features to facilitate people with mobility and sensory impairments in line with the commitments under the Transport Sectoral Plan under the Disability Act 2005 — ‘Transport Access for All'.
The Carlow/Kilkenny area will benefit from the 183 new railcars on order for the national Intercity network, under the Transport 21 investment programme, and which will be entering service through 2007 and 2008. All of the railcars will be fitted with the latest technology for the disabled including audio and visual displays.
