826 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if the school bus service to Knockmajor, County Kilkenny, will be extended by 0.8 of a mile in order to collect a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; if the special family circumstances will be considered; and if she will expedite a decision. One of the main objectives of the School Transport Scheme is to provide a basic level of service for children who live long distances from school and who might otherwise experience difficulty in attending regularly. In general, primary school transport routes are planned so that, as far as possible, no eligible child will have more than 2.4 kilometres to travel to a pick-up point. The pupil referred to by the Deputy in the details supplied resides 1.12 kilometres from the pick-up point. The parents should liaise with their local Bus Éireann office regarding the availability of a payable extension to this service.
