164 Deputy Phil Hogan asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the support of the Irish walled towns initiative; the locations and projects that will benefit from this grant scheme in 2007; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23223/07]
Amharc ar fhreagraMy Department provided just over €2m this year to fund conservation works on Irish Medieval Walled Towns. The funding is being administered by the Heritage Council.
The Council drew up a list of 18 walled towns to be assisted namely Athlone, Athenry, Carlingford, Cashel, Clonmel, Cork, Drogheda, Dublin, Fethard, Galway, Kilkenny, Kilmallock, Limerick, New Ross, Trim, Waterford, Wexford, and Youghal. Funding is being provided to support capital works, conservation plans and in some cases public realm plans.
