28 Deputy Joan Burton asked the Minister for Transport if he will direct the National Roads Authority under section 41 of the Roads Act 1993 to commence full upgrade works on the N11 from Wicklow to Rosslare, County Wexford; the reason the N11 in County Wexford has not already been upgraded especially with regard to the heavy volume of traffic to and from Rosslare Port; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for Transport I have responsibility for overall policy and funding in relation to the national roads programme element of Transport 21. The planning design and implementation of individual national road projects is a matter for the National Roads Authority under the Roads Act, 1993 in conjunction with the relevant local authorities concerned.
I do not propose to issue any directions to the National Roads Authority under section 41 of the Roads Act 1993.
