Amharc ar fhreagraImplementation of the polluter pays principle and of the Water Framework Directive requires full recovery of the cost of providing water and waste water services from the users of those services. Metering enables each consumer's water services bill to be related to consumption. Local authorities are required to set their water and waste water charges at levels that will recover their expenditure on providing water and waste water services to their non-domestic users. Total income received by local authorities in respect of non-domestic water charges is estimated at € 211 million in 2006.
