354 Deputy Martin Mansergh asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason Ireland has joined with the UK Government in opposing the case brought by persons (details supplied) for parity of treatment with full civil partnerships before the European Court of Human Rights. Amharc ar fhreagraThe case concerns the difference between the tax treatment of civil partners under the United Kingdom's Civil Partnership Act 2004, and that of other cohabitants. Ireland's intervention was made, on the advice of the Attorney General, to defend the retention of national sovereignty in the area of taxation and social policy.
