29 Deputy Joan Burton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food the number of inspections carried out under the Nitrates Directive; the number of staff allocated within local authorities for the years 2006 and 2007; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7089/08]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe number of inspections carried out by officials of my Department under the cross-compliance arrangements (which include nitrates directive requirements) attaching to the Single Payment Scheme in 2006 and 2007 was 1,309 and 1,330 respectively. I do not have information on inspections undertaken by local authorities. Staff allocations within local authorities are a matter for the authorities themselves and my Department has no involvement.
