Ceist:

142 Deputy Leo Varadkar asked the Minister for Health and Children the general practitioners services available to asylum seekers during their first weeks as asylum seekers while they are awaiting their medical cards; the cost of providing those services in terms of payments to GPs and pharmacists; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Under the Health Act, 2004, the Health Service Executive (HSE) has the responsibility to manage and deliver, or arrange to be delivered on its behalf, health and personal social services. As the healthcare of asylum seekers is provided by the HSE in the context of general arrangements governing eligibility for public health services, my Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to have this matter addressed and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.
