326 Deputy Joe McHugh asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the reason local authorities cannot house people who have left the marital home as a result of a separation while court proceedings are ongoing in relation to assets, in view of the backlog of family law cases; his views on whether it is acceptable that women who have suffered from domestic abuse are being denied the chance to be housed because their case is awaiting a court hearing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There are no specific constraints placed on housing authorities providing appropriate housing support to households in need of housing in the circumstances outlined. There is a broad range of supports available for members of households who have suffered a marital separation, subject to the terms of the relevant scheme of letting priorities and taking account of each household's individual circumstances.
