254 Deputy Joe Costello asked the Minister for Finance the sections of the national development plan that he proposes to retain; the sections he proposes to defer; the reduction in capital spending on the NDP expected in 2008; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29430/08]

In response to the deteriorating position of the public finances, the Government decided on 8th July 2008 to introduce a range of cost-saving measures in 2008 and 2009 including some capital savings. As I indicated to the Dáil in July 2008, the capital savings in 2008 and 2009 are as set out in the table below:
