Aengus Ó Snodaigh

Ceist:

20 Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Health and Children when the list for chiropodists to apply for work under the GMS system will be closed; when a decision will be made on those chiropodists who will be able to carry out that work; the remuneration involved; and the persons who are on the panel adjudicating on the applications for work under this scheme. Ceist:

21 Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Health and Children if her attention has been drawn to the practice of some chiropodists who have been accepted for work under the GMS scheme but for whom other practitioners carry out the work, at several locations, and sign their initials in order that payment can be received for work under the GMS scheme, and that this practice is taking business away from other chiropodists who may wish to tout for GMS business; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 20 and 21 together.

Under the Health Act 2004, the management and delivery of health and personal social services is the responsibility of the Health Service Executive. This includes operational responsibility for chiropody services. Accordingly, my Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to have these matters investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.
