126 Deputy Paul Kehoe asked the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food the status of the sugar beet compensation in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Wexford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [35245/08]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe various elements of the EU Sugar Reform package were designed to compensate former sugar beet growers and to assist them in diversifying into other farming activities, with the initial payments under the Sugar Restructuring Scheme, the first of the four elements of the compensation package, being made in June 2007. While the person named did hold a sugar beet quota in 2004, as he retired from farming by joining the Early Retirement Scheme in 2005, he is not eligible for the payments in question.
