Ceisteanna (75)

Mary Upton

Ceist:

71 Deputy Mary Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the fact that garda patrol cars were restricted at Hallowe’en in parts of Dublin because of inadequate resourcing of the radio control system; the reason this happened; the steps that will be taken to ensure that gardaí are not again left vulnerable in this way; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am advised that Garda management within the Dublin Metropolitan Region are unaware of any Garda patrol vehicles being restricted at Halloween due to resourcing of radio control systems.

A particular issue with personnel resources arose at the Communications Centre for the Dublin Metropolitan Region on 31st October 2008. This matter was brought to the immediate attention of Garda Management who took appropriate action to address the immediate issue. In addition, appropriate measures are being put in place for the longer term.
