130 Deputy David Stanton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress that has been made regarding the proposed prison development at Kilworth, County Cork; the time scale for the development of the prison; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13865/09]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Government has approved the assignment of a site owned by the Department of Defence to the Irish Prison Service as the location for the development of a new prison facility to replace Cork Prison and to serve the Munster Region. A preliminary site suitability report has been carried out on the site and this has confirmed that there are no significant constraints to the development of the site. In accordance with the Department of Finance Guidelines, a preliminary Business Case has been prepared. The next stage of the process is the preparation of a detailed Business Case. However, given that this project is still at the preliminary stage it is not possible to put a time scale on the development at this time.
