183 Deputy Róisín Shortall asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the extent to which his Department is meeting the agreed national target figures for employment of persons with a disability; and when in each case this target will be met or surpassed. [16102/09]
Amharc ar fhreagraMy Department currently exceeds the Government's 3% target for the employment of people with disabilities. Fifty four people with disabilities are employed, representing 3.9% of staff. The Department adheres to the guidelines contained in the Code of Practice for the Employment of People with Disabilities in the Civil Service. Recruitment of civil servants, including the recruitment of persons with disabilities, is managed by the Public Appointments Service. In addition my Department is taking part in the WAM (Willing Able Mentoring) project. This project aims to give between 3-6 months quality work experience to graduates with disabilities.
