277 Deputy Brian Hayes asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the status of an application by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 1 for a certificate of naturalisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [34719/09]
Amharc ar fhreagraA valid application for a certificate of naturalisation from the person referred to in the Deputy's question was received in the Citizenship Division of my Department in February 2006. I decided not to grant a certificate of naturalisation and the reason for refusal was disclosed to the applicant in a letter dated 2 July 2009. It is open to the person in question to lodge a new application if and when she is in a position to satisfy the statutory requirements. However, in doing so she should bear in mind the reasons for refusal of her previous application.

Amharc ar fhreagraA valid application for a certificate of naturalisation from the person referred to in the Deputy's question was received in the Citizenship Division of my Department in October 2006. I decided to grant a certificate of naturalisation and the person in question was informed of this in a letter issued to him on 29 July 2009. The name that appears on a certificate of naturalisation, except in the case of a married woman, will be that which appears on the birth certificate as submitted by the person concerned.
