With regard to primary and post-primary schools, my Department contributes 95% towards the cost of rental of temporary accommodation for schools with permanent recognition, where the need for additional accommodation has been established. The school authority will pay a local contribution of the balance of 5% subject to a maximum local contribution of €3,175 in the financial year January to December.
The information sought in respect of primary and post-primary school rentals for Waterford City over the past 5 years is not readily available in the format requested. Historical information is held on individual school rental files and would take an inordinate amount of time to compile. However, my Department maintains a current live database on temporary accommodation on a county by county basis which is updated on a daily basis. The details in respect of rental for 2008/2009 school year for Waterford City and County are set out in the following table.
The information requested by the Deputy in relation to the rental or lease of property by City of Waterford VEC is not readily available in my Department. I have asked my official to contact City of Waterford VEC and to have this information compiled and forwarded to the Deputy.
