132 Deputy Leo Varadkar asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the estimated annual cost in a full year of the first round of temporary employment subsidy; if this is being paid from general taxation or the training fund surplus; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraThe Employment Subsidy Scheme has been designed specifically as a preventative measure to retain jobs in vulnerable but viable firms that are in danger of being lost. Under the First Call of the Employment Subsidy Scheme 7,478 jobs will receive the subsidy of €9,100 over the 15 months duration of the scheme. This means that in 2009 the First Call of the Scheme is estimated to cost €19.5 million and in 2010 it is estimated to cost €48.6 million. However, Enterprise Ireland are still evaluating applications so it is possible these amounts could rise. The Scheme is being funded from the Exchequer. A Second Call for applications to the Scheme will be launched in the near future.
