149 Deputy Seán Sherlock asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the average cost of each radon detector unit as supplied by the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [42396/09]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe cost of each radon measurement kit for sale from the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland (RPII) is €56. Measurement kits are also available from private service providers at a range of similar costs. I would strongly encourage householders living in High Radon Areas to have their homes tested for radon. If the level is high it is important that the appropriate remediation measures are put in place to bring radon concentrations down to safe levels. Information on High Radon Areas and appropriate remediation measures for homes with high levels of radon is available on the website of the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland (www.rpii.ie).
