296 Deputy Maureen O’Sullivan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will consider furthering the responsibility of traffic wardens so that they have the responsibility to stop and fine cyclists who cycle on footpaths or break traffic lights. [42595/09]
Amharc ar fhreagraTraffic wardens are mainly employed by the local authorities. However, a number are still employed by the Garda Commissioner. I am informed that under road traffic legislation, which is the responsibility of my colleague the Minister for Transport, traffic wardens can issue fixed charge notices only for offences relating to illegal parking and non-display of motor tax.
