313 Deputy Joe Costello asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the recent remarks of a High Court judge advocating the re-opening of the debate on the death penalty; if he will state his position on the issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Twenty First Amendment to the Constitution inserted Article 15.5.2, which prohibits the enactment of any law providing for the imposition of the death penalty. There are no plans to further amend the Constitution on this issue.
