193 Deputy Fergus O’Dowd asked the Minister for Transport if he has received a submission from Dundalk Town Council regarding the national competition for smarter travel areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [44182/09]
Amharc ar fhreagraI set up a competition for Smarter Travel Areas to help deliver integrated sustainable transport systems in towns and rural areas across Ireland. Smarter Travel Areas will represent a radical and innovative approach to managing mobility in Ireland, ensuring people can access the services they need to while ensuring environmental, economic sustainability and delivering healthy, active lifestyles. My intention is that there will be funding support of up to €50 million over 5 years for this.
The closing date for Stage 1 of the competition was 30 October. In all, my Department received 39 applications, one of which was from Dundalk. I expect to announce the short-listed applications in the near future.
